Seeing Dead Bugs After Pest Control This Fall? What Andrews and Seminole Homeowners Should Know

2 min read

When the nights start getting cold in Andrews and Seminole, a lot of homeowners call us with the same question a few days after a pest treatment: "Why am I seeing more bugs, not fewer?" Usually it's dead or slow-moving roaches, crickets and beetles near the doors, in the garage or along the baseboards. Most of the time that's the treatment doing its job, but it helps to know what's normal and what's worth a call.

Local tip: what to do after a fall treatment

  • Sweep or vacuum them up. Dead insects near thresholds, garage doors and patios are common for the first week or two. Clean them up so they don't draw ants or other bugs looking for an easy meal.

  • Go easy on cleaning treated areas. Hold off on mopping baseboards with strong cleaners or pressure-washing the foundation, porch and garage apron right after a visit. Ask your technician how long to wait.

  • Keep kids and pets off until it's dry. Follow the directions your technician gives you for any treated area, inside or out.

  • Keep notes on live activity. If you still see live pests, jot down where, what time and about how many. A quick phone photo helps us identify what it is.

  • Keep the outside tight. Door sweeps, weatherstripping, porch lights and rock or mulch piled against the foundation all affect how many pests reach the treated line in the first place.

Why it matters now

Fall is when pests in our part of West Texas start looking for warm, sheltered spots. Cool nights push roaches, crickets, beetles and other insects toward foundations, garages and door gaps, so more of them cross the treated area and that's where you find them. Scorpions slow down as it cools, but they still tuck into garages, block walls and stored boxes, so it pays to shake out gloves and boots and check before reaching into storage.

It's also easy to skip pest service once the weather turns, but the pests moving in now are the ones that can spend the winter inside walls, cabinets and garages. Knowing what normal looks like after a treatment helps you tell the difference between a few stragglers and a real problem.

What Tejas does

Our licensed technicians treat the outside where pests try to get in, including the foundation line, door thresholds, garage entries, weep holes and eaves, plus inside areas when needed. We'll tell you what to expect over the next couple of weeks and which areas to leave alone. If you're still seeing steady live activity after that, call or text and we'll talk through what you're seeing and set up a follow-up visit if it's needed.
