Indoor Termite Signs in Andrews and Seminole: What to Check Along Baseboards, Door Frames, and Cabinets This Fall

When the weather cools off in Andrews and Seminole, we spend more time inside, and that is a good chance to look for termite signs most people walk past every day. Native subterranean termites live in the soil, but they feed on the wood inside your walls, trim, and cabinets. They work out of sight, so the clues they leave indoors are small.

Tip: do a slow walk with a flashlight

Pick an evening and walk the house with a flashlight and a screwdriver handle. Focus on the rooms that touch the ground and stay a little damp: kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and any wall that backs up to a garage or patio. Here is what to look for:

  • Thin mud lines on drywall, the slab edge, or inside a cabinet base. Termites build these tubes to travel without drying out.

  • Bubbled or blistered paint on baseboards or door trim that looks like water damage but has no leak behind it.

  • Baseboards or door frames that sound hollow when you tap them, or that feel soft when you press.

  • Pinholes or small dirt spots on drywall or trim.

  • Doors and windows that suddenly stick in rooms where nothing else has changed.

  • Piles of small wings near windowsills, doors, or light fixtures. They come from swarmers and point to a colony nearby.

Debris along a cabinet edge or baseboard is worth a closer look too. Not every speck is termites. Ants, dust, and old crumbs look similar. But if you keep finding it in the same spot, take a photo and let us look at it.

Why it matters now

Termites do not stop when it cools off. Colonies keep feeding through fall and winter, and the wood inside a heated home stays comfortable for them. Spring swarm season in the Permian Basin usually shows up after the first warm rains, and by then a colony may have been working for months. Spotting the early signs now gives you time to act before more wood is damaged.

If you find something, try not to tear it open or spray it yourself. Breaking the tubes can send termites to a different spot and make them harder to track.
