Pre-Construction Termite Soil Treatment in Midland & Odessa

Building in Midland or Odessa? The cheapest time to stop subterranean termites is before the slab goes down. A pre-construction termite soil treatment (often called a pretreat) puts a treated zone in the soil under and around the foundation while the site is still open -- before plumbing is buried, fill is compacted, and concrete locks everything in.

Fall and cooler weather are a practical window for new builds across the Permian Basin. Crews are still pouring pads, and homeowners and builders can schedule the pretreat without fighting peak summer heat. Waiting until after move-in means drilling, trenching, or treating from the outside -- still effective when needed, but more work than treating open soil first.

What a pre-construction pretreat covers

On a typical Midland or Odessa residential or light-commercial pad, the applicator treats:

  • Footing trenches before concrete is poured, so treated soil sits under the foundation line.

  • Soil under the slab area, including around plumbing penetrations and utility stubs that pass through the future slab.

  • Critical joints and voids where wood, vapor barrier, or fill will meet the foundation later.

The goal is a continuous treated soil barrier where subterranean termites would otherwise travel from the ground into wood. Exact product choice and rates follow the label and Texas Structural Pest Control rules for the site -- the point for builders and owners is simply: treat the soil while you can still see it.

Why now, not later

Subterranean termites do not need a "swarm season" invitation to explore a new foundation. Once fill and slab are in, wood-to-soil contact, form boards left in place, or unsealed penetrations can become pathways. A pretreat does not replace good construction habits (remove wood debris, keep soil grades correct, seal penetrations), but it is the step that is hardest to redo cleanly after the pour.

If your build is already under roof, ask about a post-construction soil treatment instead. Tejas also handles inspections and treatments for existing homes -- including crawlspaces and slab edges -- but those are different jobs from an open-pad pretreat.
