Getting Ready for a Termite Treatment in Andrews and Seminole: What to Expect This Fall

If you have found mud tubes, swarmer wings, or soft trim around your home in Andrews or Seminole, the next question is usually what a termite treatment actually involves. Here is what to expect, and a few simple things you can do this fall to get your home ready.

Tip: clear a path along the foundation

Most native subterranean termite treatments start at the outside of the slab, where the soil meets the foundation. The technician needs to reach that line all the way around the house. Before your visit, take a walk around the outside and:

  • Move stored items like firewood, lumber, bricks, planters, and trash cans a few feet away from the walls.

  • Pull mulch and rock back from the foundation so the slab edge and the first row of brick or siding are easy to see.

  • Trim shrubs and vines that touch the house so there is room to work next to the wall.

  • Mark sprinkler heads and drip lines near the foundation, or just let us know where they run.

  • Note any spots you are worried about, such as mud tubes, cracked mortar at grade, or a patio slab that butts up to the house.

  • Plan for pets and kids to stay inside or away from the work area during the visit.

Inside, make it easy to get to places termites like to hide: under sinks, the garage wall line, and any closets on outside walls.

Why it matters now

Termites do not stop for the season when it cools off in West Texas. Colonies stay active in the soil through fall and keep feeding on wood they can reach. Spring swarms in the Permian Basin usually show up after warm rains, and by then a colony may have had months to spread. Treating in the fall puts protection in the soil around your foundation before that spring activity.

Fall weather also makes the job easier. The ground is often easier to work than in the heat of summer, and yards are quieter with less growth to work around.

What Tejas does

Tejas Pest and Weed Control handles termite work for homes and businesses across Andrews, Seminole, and the Permian Basin. Our termite services include:

  • Termite inspections, including WDI reports

  • Active termite treatment when activity is confirmed

  • Termite pre-treatments for new construction

When we treat an existing home, we start with an inspection inside and out. Treatment around the foundation usually means digging a narrow trench along the outside of the slab, treating the soil, and drilling through concrete in spots where a patio, walk, or driveway covers the soil next to the house. We fill the trench back in and patch the holes when we are done. We walk you through what we found, where we treated, and what to keep an eye on afterward.
